SYNAPSE™ is a revolutionary suite of Terminal
Automation Products designed specifically for the Transportation
industry. Its modular and scaleable design affords the opportunity
for clients to “judiciously” implement technology depending on
their current situation(s) and present needs. A specific concern
or opportunity can be targeted with pinpoint accuracy.
The SYNAPSE™ “plug-and-play”, IP based design has provided an
unparalleled technology product offering for today’s fast-paced,
cost-conscious transportation companies.
Current modules include:
- Gate Operations
- Yard Operations
- Rail Operations
- Mobile Solutions
- Facilities Management
- Communications
- Integration Gateway
- Reporting
Background
In order to avoid the common shortcomings of outdated and proprietary
competing products while providing cost-efficient, realistic, “state-of-the-art”
technology solutions, our engineers started with a “blank page”
design approach.
Tasked with having to solve current and expected issues, NASCENT
engineers set out to list the pre-requisites for SYNAPSE™:
- The system had to be modular.
- It had to be cost-effective and easily maintained.
- It needed to be easily integrated into a client’s existing/future
infrastructure.
- It had to complement a client’s existing technology, systems
and/or business processes.
- It needed to be scaleable to accommodate growth.
- It had to be easily customized for various sites and clients.
- It needed to enable centralization so that sites could be
remotely operated.
- It had to be supportable remotely.
- etc.
Requirements were, thus, enumerated and addressed. The resulting
design and solutions formed the foundation of our SYNAPSE™ architecture.
Our engineers went to work and in late 1998, NASCENT unveiled its
first SYNAPSE™ module offering and successfully demonstrated the
operation of a gate lane (in Charleston, SC) from a remote site
(Charlotte, NC). The SYNAPSE™ audio server’s voice quality was so
impressive, that it beat other available VoIP offerings from Lucent,
Cisco, and others. Six (6) months later, NASCENT deployed the “first-ever”
remote operated gate (San Juan, PR). Our client was able to operate
a remote yard from the main gate terminal a mile or more down the
road. The system is still utilized today!
