Luis A. Ayala Colón Sucrs., Inc., Container Terminals in San Juan Selects NASCENT for Gate System Modernization and “Intelligent” Vision Solutions

October 16, 2018

CHARLOTTE, NC — October 16, 2018 — NASCENT Technology, a leading provider of gate automation and related technologies, today announced that Luis A. Ayala Colón Sucrs., Inc. has elected to upgrade its existing gate system to SYNAPSE AGS 3. In addition, the company has chosen to implement NASCENT’s enVision Imaging and OCR Portals to further enhance gate operations and increase security at the port.

The San Juan, Puerto Rico-based terminal has been running NASCENT’s SYNAPSE AGS since 2006 when it was first implemented for then terminal operator Horizon Lines. Throughout the years, the gate system has been upgraded periodically to accommodate various business environment changes, as well as a steadily increasing flow of cargo through the terminal.

This latest move to modernize the gate system is being undertaken in conjunction with the implementation of a new terminal operating system which is scheduled to go online in the first quarter of 2019. Together, the new gate system and terminal operating system is expected  to result in greater levels of efficiency, increased security, faster turn times, and a seamless gate experience for the carriers that service the terminal.

“We are continually seeking innovations that improve and enhance the service to our customers, and at the same time, make our business more efficient,” said Hernan F. Ayala-Parsi, President, Luis A. Ayala Colón Sucrs., Inc.. “The new state-of-the-art gate system that seamlessly integrates with the new terminal operating system is just a natural evolution in a history of adopting technologies that work to the benefit of our customers.”

As a testament to Luis Ayala Colón’s commitment to utilizing advanced technology, the company is also implementing NASCENT’s enVision Imaging and OCR Portals which will automatically scan and identify cargo moving through the gates, resulting in the reduction of wait times during peak hours and a more efficient flow of traffic.

“We are honored to have such a long-standing and successful history with the terminal, and we are very excited to continue to work with a forward-thinking company that truly understands and appreciates the value of technology,” said Chris Kete, President, NASCENT Technology. “As in the past, this latest round of gate modernization will serve the terminal well for years to come, and the addition of advanced vision technology will help propel the company to even greater levels of efficiency.”
